Spicy Dumpling Soup
Ingredients
For the Dumplings (Wontons):
- 1 pack wonton wrappers (round or square)
- 200 g (7 oz) ground chicken, pork, or shrimp (or mix)
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- Salt & pepper to taste
For the Broth:
- 4 cups chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp chili oil (adjust to heat preference)
- 1 tsp rice vinegar (optional)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt to taste
For Garnish:
- Fresh chopped green onions
- Fresh cilantro (optional)
Instructions
- Make the Dumpling Filling:
- In a bowl, mix ground meat, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Wrap the Dumplings:
- Place 1 tsp filling in the center of a wonton wrapper.
- Wet the edges with water, fold in half (triangle/half-moon), and seal tightly. Repeat with remaining filling.
- Prepare the Broth:
- Heat a pot with a little sesame oil. Sauté garlic and ginger until fragrant.
- Add chicken broth, soy sauce, chili oil, vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer for 5 minutes.
- Cook the Dumplings:
- Gently drop dumplings into the simmering broth. Cook 5–7 minutes until dumplings float and filling is cooked through.
- Serve:
- Ladle dumplings and broth into bowls.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and fresh cilantro.
