  • 4 cups (480 g) all-purpose flour (plus more for kneading)
  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet, 7 g) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • ¼ cup (57 g) unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for brushing)
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

1. Activate the Yeast

  • In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast.
  • Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

2. Make the Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk the egg, melted butter, and salt.
  • Add the yeast mixture and mix well.
  • Gradually add flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.

3. Knead

  • Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
(If using a stand mixer with a dough hook, knead for 5–6 minutes.)

4. First Rise

  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (1–1.5 hours).

5. Shape Rolls

  • Punch down the dough and divide into 12–15 equal pieces.
  • Roll each piece into a smooth ball and arrange in a greased baking dish or sheet pan.

6. Second Rise

  • Cover loosely and let rise again until puffy (30–40 minutes).

7. Bake

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake for 18–22 minutes, until golden brown on top.

8. Finish & Serve

  • Brush warm rolls with melted butter for a soft, shiny finish.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

🌟 Tips & Variations
