Rice Flaxseed Baby Oil Anti-Aging Gel: Get Youthful, Glowing Skin
Rice-based toners and gels are a beloved part of East Asian beauty traditions, prized for the way they leave skin looking clear, cushioned, and luminous. Rice preparations contribute soothing polysaccharides and antioxidants that help the skin look brighter and feel hydrated—perfect for that “glass skin” finish popularized by Korean beauty.
To boost that soft-focus glow, this DIY blends three power players:
Rice water for a dewy, bouncy finish,
Flaxseed gel for a cushiony, film-forming moisture veil, and
A whisper of baby oil to seal it all in.
We round it out with classic, easily available boosters—aloe, glycerin, green tea, and vitamin E—to help the skin feel calm, hydrated, and protected.
Ingredients Required
(Makes ~120 ml / 4 fl oz gel)
Rice water (60 ml / ¼ cup) – the milky water from rinsing or soaking white rice.
Whole flaxseeds (2 tbsp) – to cook into a clear, bouncy gel.
Pure aloe vera gel (30 ml / 2 tbsp) – calms and adds slip.
Vegetable glycerin (1–2 tsp) – a humectant that attracts and holds water.
Green tea (strongly brewed, cooled; 30 ml / 2 tbsp) – antioxidant boost.
Baby oil / cosmetic-grade mineral oil (½–1 tsp) – lightweight occlusive to lock in moisture.
Vitamin E oil (3–5 drops) – optional antioxidant helper.
Clean, dry jar or pump bottle (120–150 ml), fine strainer, small saucepan, whisk.
Procedure
Make flaxseed gel (base):
Add 2 tbsp whole flaxseeds to 1 cup (240 ml) water. Simmer 6–8 minutes, stirring until the liquid turns slightly viscous and forms threads. Strain immediately while hot through a fine strainer to catch the seeds. You’ll get ~½ cup (120 ml) clear gel.Prepare rice water + tea:
Rinse ¼ cup white rice and collect the second rinse/soak water (about 60 ml). Brew a very strong green tea and cool 30 ml.Combine the hydrating phase:
In a bowl, whisk 60 ml flaxseed gel, 60 ml total of rice water + green tea (30 ml each), 30 ml aloe gel, and 1–2 tsp glycerin until uniform.Finish with occlusives/antioxidants:
Whisk in ½–1 tsp baby oil in a thin stream so it disperses. Add 3–5 drops vitamin E and whisk again.Bottle & chill:
Transfer to a sanitized jar or pump. Refrigerate and use within 10–14 days (this is a low-preservative kitchen formula).
Instructions (How to Use)
When: Use on clean, slightly damp skin PM (and/or AM) after water-based serums and before heavier creams.
How: Smooth a pea to almond-size amount over face and neck. Let it sit 60–90 seconds; follow with your usual moisturizer if needed.
Frequency: Start 3–4 nights/week, then adjust.
Patch test: Apply a small amount on the jawline for 24–48 hours first—especially if you’re sensitive or breakout-prone.
Sun care: This gel complements—but does not replace—broad-spectrum sunscreen by day.
Storage: Keep refrigerated; discard at any sign of spoilage (off-smell, separation, mold).
Benefits of This DIY
Glass-skin hydration & bounce:
Flaxseed mucilage forms a soft, breathable film that helps the skin feel cushioned and look plumper—great under makeup or as a last hydrating step.Moisture magnet effect:
Glycerin draws water into the outer skin layers and supports barrier comfort, which can reduce the look of fine, dehydration lines.Antioxidant support for glow:
Rice-derived compounds and green-tea catechins provide antioxidant support that can help skin look clearer and more even with consistent use.Water-locking seal:
A tiny dose of baby oil helps reduce transepidermal water loss by forming a protective seal—useful for dry and sensitive skin types.Calm and comfort:
Aloe’s soothing polysaccharides pair well with the gentle, inert nature of mineral oil and the antioxidant mix, making the gel feel comforting after cleansing or mild exfoliation.
Pro Tips & Tweaks
Oily/acne-prone? Halve or omit the baby oil and finish with a non-comedogenic gel-cream instead.
Extra brightening: Add a few drops of licorice root extract or niacinamide serum at use time (do not mix into the entire batch).
Texture control: Too thick? Whisk in 1–2 tbsp cooled green tea. Too thin? Simmer a fresh tablespoon of flaxseeds to make a thicker gel and blend in.
Fragrance-free option: Skip essential oils; this formula already has a fresh, clean feel without added scent.
Body use: Excellent as a post-shower body gel—apply on damp skin and seal with a light lotion if desired.
