Method
Preparation
- Finely chop the garlic and grate the ginger. Set aside.
Cooking
- In a medium skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped garlic and grated ginger to the skillet. Sauté for about 2 minutes until fragrant, stirring frequently.
- Stir in the turmeric, cinnamon, and black pepper. Cook for another minute to release their flavors.
- Add the fresh basil, oregano, and thyme. If you’re using dried herbs, add them now. Stir well to combine everything.
- Remove the skillet from heat and drizzle in the lemon juice. Mix thoroughly to coat the herbs and spices evenly.
- Allow the mixture to cool before using it in your favorite recipes.
Notes
Fresh vs. Dried: Whenever possible, use fresh herbs as they tend to have a brighter flavor. Dried herbs work well too; just remember they are more concentrated. Customize your mix: Feel free to swap in your favorite herbs! Store leftover herb and spice mixtures in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
