Soft Milk Rolls Recipe
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
3 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
2 ¼ tsp instant yeast (or 1 packet)
¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
1 egg (optional, for richer dough or egg wash)
Instructions:
1. Activate the Yeast (if using active dry yeast):
If you’re using active dry yeast (not instant), mix it with the warm milk and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
2. Mix the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
Add in the yeast (instant or foamy mixture), warm milk, and softened butter.
Mix until a dough forms.
3. Knead the Dough:
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook (5–6 minutes).
4. First Rise:
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
5. Shape the Rolls:
Punch down the dough and divide it into 8–12 equal portions. Shape each into a ball and place on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
6. Second Rise:
Cover the rolls and let them rise again for 30–45 minutes, or until puffy.
7. Optional Egg Wash:
For a golden top, brush the rolls with a beaten egg or milk before baking.
8. Bake:
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15–20 minutes, or until lightly golden on top.
9. Cool and Serve:
Let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with butter, jam, or as sandwich buns!
