We eat tangerines all year round! The easiest way to keep your fruit fresh for 12 months

I keep tangerines this way for up to 12 months, and they taste even better than fresh!

Tangerine, also known as mandarin or bergamot, depending on the region, is a fruit rich in carotenes, vitamin C and flavonoids.

These compounds have antioxidant action, strengthening the immune system and helping to prevent anemia, flu and premature aging.

However, like many fruits, tangerines are not produced all year round, having a specific harvest.

But it is possible to keep it available all year round with a simple conservation technique.

Next, we’ll show you a practical and delicious way to preserve tangerines for up to 12 months. In addition to staying fresh, they become even tastier!

This recipe is easy to prepare and the result is irresistible.

Ingredients:

    • 3 kg of tangerines (or the quantity available)
    • 8 cloves
    • 1 cinnamon stick
    • Sugar
  • Hot water
  • Sterilized glass jars

How to do it:

Peel the tangerines (keep the peels, don’t throw them away), remove the lint from the segments and place them in sterilized glass jars.

Pour hot water into the containers, completely covering the fruit, and close them.

After one minute, drain the water from the tangerines into a saucepan, add the cloves and cinnamon sticks to taste. Let it boil for about 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, add 2 tablespoons of sugar to each jar containing the tangerines.

Remove the cloves and cinnamon from the marinade and pour the liquid into the jars, making sure it coats the fruit and the sugar dissolves. Close the jars tightly and shake them gently.

Place the jars in a pot with enough hot water to partially cover the containers and boil for 10 minutes.

Then, remove the jars and let them cool upside down, preferably overnight.

Tip: When stored in a cool, dry, dark place, preserved tangerines will last for up to 1 year.

Reusing shells

Place the tangerine peels in sterilized jars. Add vinegar, a pinch of salt and top up with cold water, leaving about 2 inches of space below the lid. Mix the peels well and cover the jars with a tea towel.

Let the peels rest for 30 days covered by a cloth, stirring daily during the first 15 days.

After this period, strain the peels and store the resulting liquid in a closed container.

The liquid obtained is an excellent cleaning product for kitchens and floors, leaving your home with a fresh and pleasant aroma.
