Don’t throw away your wilted ginger, turn it into a powerful natural cleaner.
Ginger is a very common ingredient in the kitchen. In addition to seasoning recipes, it has health benefits and can even be used to make functional juices.
But, when we buy in large quantities, it is common to end up forgetting some pieces in the drawer.
Over time, ginger withers, dries out, or even sprouts—and it seems to have completely lost its usefulness.
The good news? That doesn’t mean you have to throw it away!
Even when it is dry, flattened or has sprouts, ginger can still be used.
Combined with baking soda, it becomes an excellent multipurpose cleaner, natural, effective and without health risks.
Natural cleaner with ginger and baking soda
Cut the dried or sprouted ginger into thin slices. Then chop it into small strips or cubes.
Place the chopped ginger in a clean container and add baking soda (approximately 1 tablespoon for every cup of ginger).
Pour boiling water over the top. This helps release the active compounds in the ginger.
Mix well and let the solution stand for 15 minutes, so that the gingerol (active compound in ginger) dissolves completely.
Strain the liquid and transfer it to a spray bottle. That’s it! You now have a powerful, natural cleaner made from ginger and baking soda.
Where to use this solution
Greasy stove and kitchen
Spray the mixture on the greasy areas of the stove, especially on the edges and corners that are difficult to clean.
Leave it to act for a few minutes and then wipe it off with a cloth. The grease will come off easily, without the need to scrub hard or use abrasive products.
Taps and metals
Over time, it is common for calcium deposits to form on taps. Spray the solution, wait 10 to 15 minutes, and then scrub with a sponge or cloth.
Baking soda dissolves mineral deposits, while ginger helps to shine the metal.
Seasoning jars
These pots tend to accumulate grease and dust, especially if they are close to the stove.
Spray the solution and wipe with a cloth. Since the mixture is made only with natural ingredients, there is no risk of contamination from chemicals.
Natural dishwasher
You can even use this solution to wash greasy dishes and utensils.
It removes grease efficiently, has a pleasant smell and, most importantly, is safe for your health and gentle on your hands.
Why does this mixture work so well?
Baking soda is an excellent degreaser and gentle cleaner.
Ginger, even when dried, contains gingerol, which has antibacterial, disinfectant and deodorizing properties.
This recipe is simple, economical and sustainable. By reusing ginger that would otherwise be discarded, you also avoid using harsh chemicals at home.
Don’t waste any more wilted or sprouted ginger! With this tip, you’ll get a multi-purpose natural cleaner that really works.
