Clove Turmeric Toner: Get Rid Of Large Pores & Dark Spots

Clove Turmeric Toner: Get Rid Of Large Pores & Dark Spots

Enlarged facial pores and lingering dark spots are two of the most common complexion concerns. Clove buds are naturally rich in eugenol, an aromatic compound that tightens pore walls and discourages acne-causing bacteria, while turmeric’s curcumin helps interrupt excess melanin production—making it a gentle, kitchen-friendly brightening agent. When these two spices are blended into a soothing rose-water and aloe-vera base and balanced with a splash of apple-cider vinegar, you get a multitasking toner that refines texture, fades hyperpigmentation, and drenches skin in protective antioxidants. Used nightly after cleansing, this formula can help reveal a smoother, clearer, and more even-toned complexion in a matter of weeks.

Ingredients Required

(Makes approximately 150 ml; scale up or down as needed)

  • 1 tsp whole cloves (or ½ tsp ground cloves) – natural astringent, pore-tightening

  • ½ tsp organic turmeric powder – brightens and evens skin tone

  • 100 ml pure rose water – hydrates, soothes, and lightly freshens

  • 50 ml cooled strong green-tea infusion – antioxidant powerhouse

  • 1 Tbsp aloe-vera gel (food-grade or cosmetic) – humectant and skin-calming

  • 1 tsp raw apple-cider vinegar – restores healthy, slightly acidic pH

Optional boosters

  • 1 tsp witch-hazel distillate for extra pore-tightening

  • 2 drops tea-tree essential oil if you’re breakout-prone

Procedure

  1. Make a clove decoction

    • Bring 75 ml of water to a gentle boil, add the cloves, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes.

    • Remove from heat and let steep 10 minutes. Strain out the cloves; allow the amber liquid to cool.

  2. Create a turmeric slurry

    • In a sterilised beaker or measuring cup, whisk turmeric powder into the rose water until fully dispersed. This helps minimise sediment.

  3. Combine everything

    • Stir the clove decoction, green-tea infusion, aloe-vera gel, and apple-cider vinegar into the turmeric-rose base.

    • If using witch hazel or tea-tree oil, blend them in last.

  4. Bottle

    • Funnel the toner into a dark, sterilised 150 ml spray or flip-cap bottle. Label and date it.

Instructions

  1. Patch test on your inner arm for 24 hours—turmeric can stain and acids may irritate very sensitive skin.

  2. After cleansing, shake well (turmeric settles) and mist 2–3 pumps over your face or sweep on with a cotton pad, avoiding the immediate eye area.

  3. Do not rinse. Let it absorb and follow with your usual serum or moisturiser.

  4. Use once daily at night; reduce to every other evening if you experience dryness.

  5. Refrigerate and use within 7 days. Because the formula is preservative-free, discard if colour or scent changes.

Benefits of the DIY

  • Visible pore size – Eugenol in cloves contracts and strengthens pore walls, giving skin a smoother, less “orange-peel” look. Witch hazel (if added) offers an extra instant tightening effect.

  • Dark spots & hyperpigmentation – Turmeric’s curcumin slows the enzyme tyrosinase, helping prevent new pigment from forming and gradually fading existing marks.

  • Antioxidant shield – Green-tea catechins, turmeric polyphenols, rose-water flavonoids, and clove compounds work together to neutralise free radicals that lead to premature ageing.

  • Calms redness & acne bacteria – The antibacterial action of cloves, combined with optional tea-tree oil, helps keep breakout-causing microbes in check while reducing inflammation that can worsen post-acne marks.

  • Barrier hydration – Aloe-vera gel supplies mucopolysaccharides that draw and lock in water, counterbalancing the mild acids and keeping skin comfortably moisturised.

  • Balanced pH & gentle resurfacing – A dash of apple-cider vinegar restores the skin’s optimal mildly acidic pH, improving product absorption and imparting a subtle, acid-based smoothing effect.

Pro Tips

  • Choose cosmetic-grade turmeric to minimise staining and ensure a fine texture.

  • Never exceed a 1:10 ratio of vinegar to water-based ingredients to avoid irritation.

  • Because the toner can heighten cell turnover, wear broad-spectrum SPF every morning to protect your brighter new skin from UV-induced darkening.

With consistent nightly use and diligent daytime sun protection, many users start to notice tighter-looking pores after two weeks and a visible reduction in dark spots within four to six weeks—an easy, affordable route to clearer, more refined skin straight from your spice rack.
