🥙 Greek Chicken Gyro with Tzatziki Sauce

 

 

🥣 Ingredients (Serves 3–4)

🍗 For the Chicken Marinade

  • 500 g (1 lb) boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs

  • 3 tbsp Greek yogurt

  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • ½ tsp paprika

  • Salt & black pepper to taste


🥒 For the Tzatziki Sauce

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt

  • ½ cucumber, grated and drained

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh dill or mint

  • Salt to taste


🌯 For the Gyro Assembly

  • 4 Greek pita or flatbreads (lightly warmed)

  • 1 cup chopped lettuce

  • ½ red onion, thinly sliced

  • 1 tomato, diced

  • ¼ cup crumbled feta cheese

  • Fresh parsley or mint for garnish


👩‍🍳 Instructions

Step 1: Marinate the Chicken

  1. In a bowl, whisk yogurt, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper.

  2. Add chicken and coat well.

  3. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight) for best flavor.


Step 2: Cook the Chicken

  1. Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat.

  2. Cook chicken for 5–6 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.

  3. Remove, rest for 5 minutes, then slice thinly.


Step 3: Make the Tzatziki

  1. Mix Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, dill, and salt.

  2. Chill in the fridge until serving — this enhances the flavor.


Step 4: Assemble the Gyros

  1. Warm pita bread on a dry pan for a few seconds.

  2. Spread a spoonful of tzatziki sauce.

  3. Add chicken slices, lettuce, tomato, onion, and feta.

  4. Drizzle extra tzatziki on top and fold the pita wrap.

  5. Garnish with parsley or mint.


Step 5: Serve

Serve immediately with:
